Lovely. But fish tacos need more veggies. Cilantro leaves, minced tomato, avocado. Maybe some finely sliced lettuce or cabbage. Put some California in it, dude!!

Carol

Generic recipe terms like "Red Snapper" and "Cod" represent both threatened species and safer alternatives. For example, rockfish from places like Alaska and CA may be labeled as red snapper and it is considered a good choice, but other fish labeled as red snapper may not be. Ditto for Atlantic cod. Seafood Watch has a wallet guide that I've found to be very helpful when shopping for ingredients.

I made these last night to usher in July and they were fantastic -- quick, easy, foolproof. The only note I would make is that the seasoning mix is, obviously, spicy and I only used about half of the amount called for. Otherwise, everything was perfect!

I fish regularly and often make fish tacos with fresh mahi mahi. I've found the best sauce to use is Greek Yogurt mixed with lime juice and cilantro.

Made a slaw with cabbage, very thinly sliced, and brined with salt and sugar, for several hours. Dressing mayo, sour cream, jalapeño, lime juice, red vinegar, sugar, finely chopped red onion.

This was excellent. The only changes I'll make for next time: the green onions should be cut in small pieces (it was hard to "bite" through them: they were a little fibrous). I will also add more crunchy vegetables (perhaps some cabbage?)

Offered up a slaw of Cara-Cara oranges, fennel, basil and lime with these tacos. Over the top - fantastic combo with the sour cream adobo.

Why use powdered garlic? Fresh is so much better. And I agree that cabbage and cilantro, lime & avocado are a must. Also, not cheddar but queso fresco.

Angela

Traveling to Baja throughout my love has created a love for fish tacos. This recipe is ok, but you must have cabbage! Cut it up and and squeezed lime, salt and pepper.

Chairmanpao

Deanna, I think fresh garlic will burn if you cook the fish as instructed. Burned garlic leaves a bitter taste, thus the powdered.

Anne

I made this with shrimp and we thought it was delicious.

Sherry

Outstanding recipe! Very easy to prepare. Be careful that the pan for cooking the fish is no higher than medium so that the spices don't burn.
Queso fresco, not cheddar, and a crunchy slaw with a lime cilantro dressing are perfect accompaniments!

Tammy

Loved this and will make over and over. We like a lot of spice so next time and the actual dry spice mixture met our tastes. However, next time around I will add some smoked paprika to the chipotle sour cream as it did not stand-up to the spice level of the fish (and I did not feel it was meant to cool down the spice so why not amp it up a little).

I've done this recipe a number of times and I love it. Sometimes I don't have radishes - no problem. I've added avocados, lettuce, cilantro, tomatoes, whatever is in the fridge that you might use on tacos. Made the sauce with mayonnaise and/or yogurt. All good, You have to work with the flavors.

Well....it packs a punch. But I think it was a bit of a waste of the fish. The rub was good but you better could use it on chicken. My family liked it for a Friday night, but thought it was too unhealthy. Cheese and fish is a nono for Europeans as well. This cook liked it though.

This is a Sunday dinner for my family of 6. I added avocado and cabbage and I had cheese but not sure you need the cheese with all those great spices. Thank you for a great meal with little fuss.

I made this as Sunday Dinner for my family of 6. Everyone loved it including my 11 yo and 16 yo grandsons. They all built their own tacos and I love I could prep everything in advance and have it ready to go. I did add shredded cabbage, avocado and shredded carrots to make it more veggie friendly.

Karin

This was delicious. I used half the spice mix for the fish and it was plenty. Accompanied with a slaw using purple cabbage, lime cilantro dressing, and a chopped mango. I took the suggestion in one of the comments to cook the fish in a cast iron pan on the bbq so the house didn’t smell like fried fish- a win!

Gretchen

Aggressively salting the fish made it a bit too salty (and I love salty!) Maybe just salt it how you normally would. The seasoning on the fish is fantastic. We used Rock Fish. I would definitely use this preparation again for fish tacos (but next time less salt). However, I agree with another reviewer about the toppings. Fish tacos minimally need crema, cabbage and pico de Gallo. I used the toppings from Sam Siftons other fish taco recipe and they were great!

Flour Tortillas

Make again, do fish burritos instead

Michael

To editor: why is the oven turned on? Looks like everything cooks on the stove.

Kristen

Since this is a spice forward dish, I used Tilapia. I would not smother a fish that you appreciate the flavor with little else.

Sam

Two tips. One: add a few tablespoons of bread crumbs to the fish seasoning. Two: cook the fish when its partially frozen; it holds together better and doesn’t fall apart like “white “ fishes so often do. Awesome dish.

Judy

I didn't have scallions in the house and so I made shallots pickled with salt and lime. Slice 2 shallots thinly and mix with the juice of 2 limes and kosher salt. Wait at least 10 minutes. Yum!

Craig S

Very good and easy. Decreased sour cream in half and subbed shredded cabbage for the vegetables. Also just warmed tortillas at the end, no need to hold in oven.

Maria Lyons

Fantastic recipe. Loved it.

Gwynne

Great non-recipe recipe. Basically a reminder to season the fish, cook it all a once and then break it up. Used some cajun seasoning I had on hand from some blackening in the past. Forgot about the scallions. Made a yogurt-mayo-lime-sriracha cream and in addition to crunchy radishes made a vinegary cabbage slaw. Cheese isn't my fav with fish tacos, so saved a few calories there. Would have been even better with cilantro leaves, tho.

Rainydaze

I cooked per the recipe. Too much spice (and I like spice)!I have an outdoor grill and a mesh grill bag so I'll cook the cod this way next time (brush neutral oil both sides of fish and season w/ a fraction of the rub). Less oil that way and nice, moist fish. I think I'll try adding the scallions over the cod on the grill and see how that works.

Sandra

Love this recipe but I don’t eat scallions so substituted a healthy sprinkle of fresh cilantro.
