"Very attractive looking appy! and good too. Had some ladies over for a "crafty evening", making little Christmas thingies, the spirals went over big, and the ladies took the recipe, from "Women's world"."

  1. Can these be frozen for a few days? Not sure about the cream cheese. But when I think about cheese cake, that freezes well, so I guess I answered my own question.

  1. Excellent! I wouldn't change a thing. However, I ended up using 3 tortillas. It's very important to not place the roast beef close to the edge because your rolls won't "seal" if you place it clear to the edge.

  2. Excellent! Must admit, at first I wondered about the necessity to drain the horseradish...gosh, was I surprised at the amount of liquid extracted! Still pondering what it could have been used for had I saved it. Addition to Bloody Mary? Zip up any smooth gravy/sauce? Au jus? Hmmmm.

  3. Easy, fast and do ahead. . . everything I like! I added some Dijon mustard as well and a little more horseradish than called for. Worked very well. I bet these would freeze well too??Thanks again Dorothy.

  4. I liked this very much. It tasted more like cream cheese than horseradish though. I'll make this again using more horseradish and less cream cheese. Update-I increased the horseradish to 3 tablespoons, decreased the cream cheese to 6 oz, and increased the stars to 5. Thanks again.

  5. A really good make-ahead appetizer. I added an extra tablespoon of horseradish, just because I love the stuff, and I ended up using 3 tortillas. Even MIL who's not overly fond of beef liked these.

  1. Excellent! I did make some minor changes, and they turned out great! I ended up using 3 tortillas, I used 3+ Tbs of horseradish, dried parsley and chopped red onion instead of green onions. The flavors went very well together! Made them the night before the party and cut them up right before the party and YUM!! Next time I'll grate the onion into the mixture since I didn't care for the crunch of the onion and I will add a bit more roast beef!

  2. Really good. Took to a casual dinner at a friend's house and they were the first thing gone. Only change was that I used arugula in place of parsley. I served with some horseradish sauce for dipping. Mine made 3 10 inch tortillas, but perhaps I didn't spread it thick enough. Will make again. Thanks.

  3. great appetizer. i used shallots instead of green onion, just a personal preference. thanks.

  4. A hit! I took this to a Christmas gathering and the hostess has made me promise to give her the recipe. Even my husband, who is wary of anything that contains cream cheese, liked these. Instead of flour tortillas, I used 4 thin, whole-grain flatbreads that rolled easily and put the emphasis on the filling.

  5. Really good!! I made these exactly to recipe and I think next time I will add fresh garlic instead of powdered and will increase the roast beef, using three tortillas instead of two. (The cheese mixture was a bit too much for only two tortillas.) This is a great appetizer and would make a good main dish sandwich, as well.

FAQs

What is the secret to a perfect roast? ›

The secret to making tender roast beef:

It's all about cooking low and slow. With a cut of meat like this, a longer cook time will give you better, more tender results. Ideally, all roasted meats would be seared on all sides in a hot skillet to develop a golden, delicious crust.

How long should roast beef be cooked for? ›

The size and shape of your roast makes a difference in cooking time. As a general rule of thumb, at 225°F, cook your roast for about 30 minutes per pound, after the initial browning (for a medium rare). But be sure to check at least 30 minutes before it should be done, just to make sure.

How do I cook a beef roast without drying it out? ›

When cooking a roast in the oven, keep it uncovered until roasted to the desired doneness. After removing from the oven, tent with foil and let stand 15 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute, preventing them from draining out during carving—and preventing dry, disappointing meat.

What meat goes with horseradish? ›

Horseradish sauce is a wonderful accompaniment to steak, prime rib, beef tenderloin, and pork, and is a classic condiment on gefilte fish. Lighter than buttery, creamy sauces like béarnaise, horseradish has a bite that won't mask the flavor of your meats.

Is it better to cook a roast covered or uncovered? ›

To give your meat a flavourful crispy exterior, cook uncovered on a rack set in a shallow roasting pan. Don't add water! Invest in a digital thermometer that lets you monitor the temperature of your roast – or even alert you when it's done – without opening the oven door.

What can I add to my roast to make it taste better? ›

Add Some Extra Onions

Never hold back from adding extra onions to your pot roast. Onions help turn the broth into a smokey jam as they caramelize, flavoring the tender beef. Though you can use white onions, sweet onions, or red onions, we recommend using yellow ones because of their unique flavor profile.

Is it better to cook a roast at 325 or 350? ›

When roasting meat and poultry, set the oven temperature to 325°F (163°C) or higher. Explore the charts below to learn how to get great results every time you cook.

Do you put water in the pan when cooking roast beef? ›

Place the roast, fat side up, on a rack over a roasting pan. Pour water and beef broth into the pan (around, not over the roast) to very lightly cover the bottom of the roasting pan.

What temperature is best for roasting beef? ›

Roast beef cooking time: 50 minutes to 1 hour 20, depending on how well done you like it. Roast beef temperature: Heat the oven to 240C/220C fan/gas 9 for the first 20 minutes of cooking, then lower it to 190C/170C fan/gas 5 for the remainder.

Should I cover beef with foil when roasting? ›
